Libya’s Haftar Holds Talks on Cooperation with Pakistan’s Army Chief
Haftar met Munir in Rawalpindi, where the two sides reviewed issues of common interest, with particular attention given to regional security developments and professional military collaboration. A statement said they “exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on security dynamics in respective regions and professional cooperation.” The talks also highlighted “the importance of continued engagement and collaboration” between Libya and Pakistan.
Haftar was accompanied during the meeting by his son, Lt. Gen. Saddam Khalid Haftar.
Munir reiterated Pakistan’s intention to deepen ties with Libya, reaffirming Islamabad’s “commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Libya,” and stressing continued support for “peace, stability, and institutional development” in the North African country, according to reports.
The meeting followed Munir’s visit to Benghazi in December, during which discussions centered on expanding defense cooperation, including joint efforts in training, capacity development, and counterterrorism.
That visit took place “within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations and opening broader horizons for coordination in areas of mutual interest in a manner that serves the interests of both countries,” as stated by Libya’s eastern forces.
Haftar, for his part, welcomed the engagement, expressing his “pleasure at the warm reception and welcome, which reflects the depth of relations between the two leaderships and the two brotherly peoples,” according to the statement.
Reports also recalled that in December 2025, Pakistan’s army chief traveled to Benghazi, where he finalized an arms agreement valued at more than $4 billion with Saddam Haftar, the deputy commander of Libya’s eastern forces.
